The best thing about Medvivo I would say is teamwork and the very supportive environment.

  • Why did you choose to work for us?

I always wanted to include different dimensions to my career as a GP and being part of the Out of Hours team was always a plan from training days. When we moved from Swansea to Bath after my GP training, Medvivo was recommended by my colleagues while I was working as a locum GP in Bath and Wiltshire. I am glad I listened to them.

  • What do you get up to on a typical shift?

As a sessional GP I carry out different roles may it be a triage shift, clinical assessment, day/ evening base shift and even night shift. Having a mixture of roles is challenging and makes working more enjoyable.

When it is triage or assessment shifts, we call patients to assess the suitability for safe closure of the case with advice or booking a face to face appointment or home visit. The base shift mainly involves triage, face to face review of the patients, ward calls, care home and home visits.

  • What do you like most about working here?

The best thing about Medvivo compared to other places I would say teamwork and a very supportive environment. Help is readily available when you need the most may it from co-ordinators, colleagues or from well written procedures.

I think this has encouraged me to continue enjoying working in the Out of Hours team when I joined just after my training.

  • What has been your biggest achievement?

Being considered eligible to be part of a different team like Clinical Governance and Clinical Navigator has been great for my career progression.

  • What makes someone successful here?

Hard work, efficient, team player, friendly; being honest and supportive plays a big role.

  • How are you supported in your role?

Appreciation from colleagues and patients for the work I do, clinical guardian auditing feedback and annual appraisals are a few good ways that the work we do is reviewed and improved.

I feel even as a sessional GP your feedback is well listened to and actioned if appropriate, we are well looked after and supported.

On a day to day basis help is readily available from every job role I work with from drivers to Co-ordinators as well as my fellow clinicians.

There can be challenges, whether clinical management dilemma, difficult patient / relative, referral query, safeguarding referrals etc. Knowing in such situations who and where to seek help, makes this job easier and less stressful.

  • How does the approach to flexible working patterns suit you?

That’s the best thing about my work. I think working Out of Hours is a perfect addition to my job role as a GP, which helps me to strike a considerably well work life balance.

  • What makes us unique as an employer?

It's an ambitious, well-grown company who also knows how to create a happy working environment for their employees.

  • What would you say to someone who was thinking of working for us?

I would definitely recommend Medvivo as one of the best Out of Hours providers. Anyone who has had any thoughts of working in this area but are anxious about being able to cope, should join this well supported service before you steer away from it.
